We are thrilled to share with you the last published paper regarding IOeRT technique!
The scientific community is aware about the great innovation of FLASH radiation therapy, but before looking to the future it is important to consolidate our background knowledge.
IOeRT is most likely the first application able to clinically implement FLASH-RT mainly due its dose delivery (just one single field and single time irradiation) and the direct visualization of the target.
Prof. Felipe Calvo and his team have developed an interesting overview of evidence collected between 1982 and 2020 during which a total of 19.148 IOeRT treatments were delivered.
Basing on ESTRO guidelines applications (breast, pancreatic and rectal cancer, and sarcomas) the authors showed the feasibility, tolerance, and benefits in terms of cancer control obtained using IOeRT as a component of treatment in patient requiring surgery and RT and proposed a dose escalation study within the future Flash perspective.
